Introduction: Small Business Owners Wear All the Hats
The global spa industry is flourishing at approximately $132.32 billion in 2026 with projections reaching $540.38 by 2034.
It sits within a $6.8 trillion health & wellness economy that rivals the world's largest industries, like automotive, and sometimes intersects with such majors as retail and real estate -- wellness real estate has become a thing.
Vicky V., owner of Scalp Rituals Head Spa found her own niche, weaving in the momentum of the $90 billion haircare sector.
"As I started discovering how important scalp health is and trying to figure out how to bring that to my clients, I went down like a rabbit hole," Vicky said.
"... They don't have an answer to why their hair is unhealthy ... And so that's really what inspired me to even start this up in the first place."
She connected with Zoek via our partner Mindbody's marketplace to help give her clients an informational platform -- a new website -- and to reach potential clients with search engine optimization (SEO) and paid ads.
Within her first two weeks of paid advertising, she welcomed 28 conversions.
It was a "game changer," she said. "It was just so nice on my free time; I'm not sitting there like, 'okay, I like I need to find a way to put so much time and energy into something that I don't know much about...' then also seeing the return on investment through that."
Let's get a closer look at her unique journey, her advice to entrepreneurs, what she loves about her website, and her response to ranking on the coveted Page One of Google Search.

The Story Behind the Brand
Tell us a bit about your business and what inspired you to start?
So, Scalp Rituals, the concept is ever evolving. I started it because I needed a platform to really talk to my clients about their scalp and their hair health. And I noticed a huge gap in education for products, education on scalp health, and I really wanted to close that gap... being behind the chair didn't really give me that platform for my clients to take me seriously.
As a woman-led business, what has your journey looked like so far?
Being a widowed single mother of two kids, it's really hard to start something that you're passionate about because of lack of resources, lack of support.
I am super lucky.
My boss is Ivy and Oak, he just gave me the space that I needed. He's invested so much time, so much energy into what I believe in. He saw my passion for this. Having his support was what really helped accelerate everything, I feel.
Also, being surrounded by a lot of feminine energy [from] my co-workers on the salon side. They support me in the way that they are so excited about this. They even tell their clients and they send me all their clients.
How has being an inclusive space shaped your brand and mission?
I truly feel that being inclusive is a must in the salon industry because regardless of what service you offer, our priority is making people feel and look their best. That comes in all shapes and sizes and all things. I think it's important to be a safe space for people to come in and be who they are and trust that you're not going to judge, trust that you're going to have their back.

Working With Zoek's Website Design Crew
How was your experience working with the Zoek team on your website desisgn?
I really came into this all a little bit blind... I had worked with a company and that really put a bad taste in my mouth. But when [Zoek partner] Mindbody sent an offer, they're like, "Oh, we can help you build your website," I decided to call.
And again, even with a lot of hesitation, the salesperson, he just really helped me navigate so much of those fears. I had already dumped so much money. He helped me find a way to get that money back and just kind of guide me on like, "Hey, this is how we can support you. This is what we offer." It was very little pressure and it was just the right amount of follow up.
Awesome, love to hear that. Was there anything that surprised you in a positive way?
Just how they managed to get my website exactly -- I mean, from here to there -- I'm just like, "Oh, this is exactly how I wanted it."
So great to hear. How did the team bring your vision to life?
I loved the questions... just constant communication, and it did feel like I was included in the process. This was me creating the website. They're just doing all the stuff I didn't know how to do. So I think that was just a game changer for me.
What do you love most about your new site?
It's so clean. I think it's beautiful. I'm super proud... I just wanted to show everybody how beautiful it is, and I was just really excited for people to see it.
I think from start to finish when people go on to that website, they're like, "Oh, professional. It's neat." And I think when they come in, it's like, "Oh, it aligns with what I see, and we didn't just get catfished."

Growing With Search Engine Optimization (SEO)
How are you feeling about increasing visibility locally through marketing services such as SEO?
I am so excited about that. I can't wait to see all the seeds that have been planted. And finally, when it comes to fruition, I'm excited to get clients to really align with like what I want to bring and what I want to give, who are looking to not only change their scalp, but change like their life.
Yeah, absolutely. And with SEO, it's more of a slow burn process. It's super important to company growth, but it's more like a "trust the process" kind of thing. However, we're super early in your campaign and you already have seven of your primary keywords ranking on [Google's] Page One and another seven showing strong upward growth. What excites you most about early traction and how do you see SEO and major marketing efforts supporting your expansion?
Having those numbers really puts you at ease because you're like, "Okay, it is working." ... I'm glad that I invested early on into this, and it's going to surpass all of my expectations.

The Mindbody Partnership Connection
How long have you been using Mindbody and were you with Mindbody from the start or did you switch from other software?
I actually started with ClassPass. I had found ClassPass through an Instagram ad and we had used it before, but at the time it didn't align... Then I got a notification from my ClassPass that's like, "Hey, we have this promotion for Mindbody."
We love that they merged; it gives a massive community of likeminded people a place to find likeminded businesses. As a small business owner, how does MindBody help your day-to-day?
I really like the new, attentive marketing process. I'm not somebody who likes to do all the mundane "figuring out," that kind of stuff.
How important is online booking for your business?
It 100% needs to happen... sometimes [clients] they're up at 3am, they're like, "Well, I need to book this appointment." They're not going to call. They're not going to wait to call. They want it now. And so I think it would be a huge missed opportunity not to have any kind of online booking option.
Absolutely; a little bit of a competitive edge. How has that impacted your growth?
I think that, again, being somebody who is just kind of like slightly invisible online, it helped me really curate what I wanted to offer and really put myself out there and grow in that, like in my offerings, and be able to get a lot of feedback from them... It's more steady.

Did it feel easier once having your new website up in the booking system online?
Oh, that was a huge game changer... it's easier for people to find me and understand what I offer.
How does having both platforms working together support your expansion?
I think it's given me confidence to promote myself a little more.
Do you think having a trusted marketing partner, who's invested in you and your business, is important for small business owners?
Oh, it's everything. I mean, we have so many options. We're constantly bombarded with, "Hey, try this marketing, try this," and it's, it's a lot of money. So being able to know that your money is going to be handled and that you're going to see results, I think that's super important.

Final Thoughts: Looking Ahead to More Growth
So you're expanding your business, adding new services... what are you most excited about?
I am partnering up with Be Natural and because it's a Med Spa, I'm able to elevate my platform into more of the medical side of hair loss... I can't diagnose. I can't do that. But it's like adding an accelerator to somebody's hair loss journey. So we're gonna have not only the services that I provide, which I'm still going to provide -- that relaxing portion -- but I'm also going to get more into scalp health on a deeper level.
... It's great because my website, it's like the landing page, the information is there. And it makes integration a little bit easier and smoother, and also just showcase how partnerships can help you grow faster.
What advice would you give to other entrepreneurs or other small business owners looking to grow?
Stay curious. Stay curious and be bold.
I've been told, "no" so many times because my ideas are always outside of the box. But because I chose to stay curious and chose to not take "no" for an answer, I've been able to change my clients' lives. I've been able to grow. I've been able to bring on something that most other people would be terrified to invest in.
